Crafco Qwikstix adhesive is a hot applied polymerically resinous composition which is designed to provide a quick, easy method to adhere pavement markers, delineator post temporary markings or anything else that needs to be adhered to asphalt or concrete pavement surfaces. Qwikstix adhesive also can be used for small scale filling and sealing of cracks in asphalt or concrete pavements. Qwikstix adhesive is ideal for use by cities, counties, states, park services, fire departments, golf courses, or other industries to adhere product to pavements and for crack sealing.
To use, the Qwikstix is removed from the self-release box, held with one hand (wearing heat and flame resistant gloves) and heated at the end with the flame from a hand-held propane torch until the Qwikstix melts.
The surface of the pavement must be clean and dry before using Qwikstix adhesive. Using a propane torch, hold the Qwikstix approximately 4 inches from the pavement surface. With the propane flame at a 45 degree angle to the surface and 6-8 inches from the Qwikstix, melt the Qwikstix forming a puddle on the pavement that is being warmed by the torch. If the melted material on the pavement cools prior to placing the marker, gently warm the Qwikstix puddle until it is fluid and then quickly apply the marker. When an adequate supply of adhesive is on the pavement immediately place the item to be adhered to the pavement on the adhesive and press firmly for approximately 10 seconds. Allow 30 seconds to 1 minute to cool.
The crack surfaces should be prepared to provide a clean dry bonding surface which is free from debris, dust, or other contaminants. The Qwikstix should be heated and melted into the crack using the above described procedure. A sufficient quantity of Qwikstix on the pavement should be melted to fill the crack. Application can also consist of placing the tip of the Qwikstix on the pavement and heating the tip with the flame while drawing the Qwikstix along the pavement surface to form a "band aid" type of application approximately 1 to 2 inches wide and not exceeding 1/8 inch in thickness along the pavement surface. For improved adhesion, the pavement surface may be gently warmed with the flame prior to Qwikstix application.
Application of this product with propane torches presents the possiblity of fire hazards. It is the sole responsibility of the applicator to insure proper safety precautions are followed when using this product. Avoid overheating. The stream of adhesive should not be flaming when it reaches the pavement. Nonflammable gloves, long sleeve shirts and eye protection should be worn when using Qwikstix adhesive. The precautions include, but are not limited to:
Do not leave propane torches lit and unattended.
Keep at least one approved fire extinguisher in the vicinity at all times.
Qwikstix adhesive is specifically formulated to adhere pavement markers and to fill cracks in asphalt or concrete pavements. The use of Qwikstix adhesive for anything but its intended purpose shall not be the responsibility of Crafco or any of its dealers or agents.
